Sunrise -- I've seen 'em all. The sun says "I've fooled you again, your chance to sleep is gone, you've cried clear through till dawn." Utah -- too far away. The road's just laughing at me: "you'll never get that far, just feel how hard the tar." I say "your card was sweet, my dear," but you'd sent 20 out last year. I say "I like the way you signed your name," you say "it's always been the same." And it's funny, but I don't really care. It may seem crazy, but I'm gonna go out there. I might not find it, but in Utah, I know I'll just keep looking for the heart, the X, the O. Alone, the day is long. The clock is mocking me well: the face grins on the wall and the hands don't move at all. The wish beneath the bridge: a train was passing above. I feel your level gaze after the memory of it fades. I was lonely, low, solo when you climbed and climbed and climbed. I still don't know where to go, but this is finally mine. You climbed a summit ridge and wrote my name in the stone, so new joy is engraved up high where eagles play. And it might sound funny, may seem crazy, I might not find it, but I'll just keep looking for the heart, the X, the O.
