A long, hard, weary day and not much left to say leaves me wishing for a bed to sleep my pain away. In long hours of the night, I cry by candlelight, insecure in solitude, and things just won't get right. I got a sturdy chair and tables everywhere, I even got a roof that keeps the rain out, but a bed is where rivers flow and flowers grow, mothers call and children go, when I'm wide awake, to know I had a bed would help me so. Now I could build a bed, but I don't trust my head. I might get it wrong, so I'll daydream instead. I got a sturdy chair and tables everywhere, I even got a roof, it keeps the rain out, but a bed is where rivers flow and flowers grow, mothers call and children go, when I'm wide awake, you know, if I had a bed, it would help me so. "Rock-a-bye baby on the treetop, when the wind blows, the cradle will rock, and when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, and down will come baby, cradle and all."
